Episode 12 and ...
What's new...? Life happens...
Please note: Last few months have been unexpectedly hectic. The "hectic" being an indication that I am a master of understatement. Mostly attributable to an excess of workload.
Hopefully, the circumstances look like clearing ahead and very soon the craziness may be over and I'll try to get back on track as soon as I can. It's possible that I'll release several episodes at once or at least withing short span of time, to make up for lost time.
The best way to get informed is to register, so I may be able to send you an email once the episodes are posted.
Update pending.
Story and language
Monday, 07 February 2011 00:00
The story is happening in the future. That means that the language usage may differ slightly from the present. It is natural that the characters may use words and terms that are adopted from other languages due to influx of populations from another areas into the new rump state, or that neologisms would crop up that reflect the best expressive meaning, given the span of time when there was virtually no literature produced during the Skynet era.
The change is likely to occur on two fronts. One is within the capacity of government bodies that would try to address the results of social changes. Hopefully, the government would abhor the manipulative practice of introduction of new terms to frame the usage for the sake of social experiments, or worse, of a perceived need for a social pressure. The second is a natural progression of language with new generations providing their input in enhancing the vocabulary of expressions and colloquial phrases, or shifting the meaning into a new referential frame.
I am keeping in mind that the readership will be not confined to anglosphere, and the non-English speakers should be able to look up most of the words and phrases in dictionaries or thesauri. In the instances where that is not possible, I'll introduce a list of new words or phrases and their meaning. Or resurrect some old, nearly forgotten usage from its neglect.
Speaking of neglect...
I did neglect the language aspect initially, in rush to get the story out. It is reflected mainly in dialogs. I already went through several revisions of the first episode after publishing it. It is not yet in its finalized form--it is likely that there may be a few more revisions and I'll replace the E01 as the revisions are finalized. This applies to the E02, and possibly to the next two episodes, to a lesser degree. Hopefully, from E05 on, the published material would be already in its final form.
If you already read the E01, please bear in mind that you see something that in software parlance would be referred to as RC (release candidate). Sometimes in March 2011, all the episodes so far published should be in the final form. I'll post a note when I catch up with revision cycle, so the readers would know that they can download the final copy for their archives.
